While everyone is watching to see what Ohio and Wisconsin are going to do about collective bargaining, Nevada is completely out of the loop.
Instead, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader is going after hookers. With all the problems Nevada has, the highest rate of foreclosures in the country, immigration and budget problems, you think he’d find a better thing to rail against and declare illegal than hookers.
Yep, hookers. The staple of Nevada and probably a profession more famous than gambling and motherhood.
And who is coming out of the box in support of the hookers? Ironically, a Republican Senator who is under investigation for breaking the rules of the Senate and for having an affair with one of his staffer’s wives. Keep in mind, he’s a pro-family kinda guy, as most of the GOP say they are. (Bet his family doesn’t think so.)
I find it completely ironic (and ridiculous) that the conservative Republican Senator if FOR hookers while the supposedly liberal Democratic Senator is against them! How the wheels do turn. Thirty years ago, even 15 years ago, it would have been the Republican calling for an end to hookers and NOT the Democrat.
And, for even more irony, not one Senator has backed the Senate Majority Leader or even introduced a bill. Shows you what they think of him, doesn’t it?
Of all the important issues in a cash strapped and beleaguered state, you’d think the Nevada Senate Majority Leader would have better things to do with his time and energy than mess with a thriving business.
Although there is no state income tax in Nevada, the brothels and hookers pay a local fee to ply their trade. Instead of banning them, tax them like every other business. They’ve already proven they’re a viable business, bringing in several million dollars a year to the state, so why not treat them like a business and tax them? Everybody makes money that way and a Nevada institution is left alone.
