Religion and the Constitution………

I’m getting fairly tired of all the rhetoric about this being a “Christian Nation”.

History tells us that it was not founded by Christians.  It was founded by men from different faiths as well as a few atheists.  Even the Founding Father’s personal letters tell us this……..if you bother to read them AND the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

After seeing what happened in England when the King was the head of the Church of England, and how he abused that power, the men who actually penned the Constitution, (Geuvernor Morris, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison being the primaries in this effort) knew that there MUST be a separation of church and state for a country to be successful and not oppressed by the will of one man or one church.  That there should NOT be one state religion for everyone as there was in England at the time (thanks to Henry VIII).

Switch to…….

The present……December 2014……And what do we have?  People screaming that this is a Christian Nation.  That we should have the Christian religion as our national religion.

Bullshit.

It’s called the separation of church AND state for a very good reason.

As of this date the so-called “Christian” religion comprises roughly 40,000…..YES, I SAID FORTY THOUSAND……different denominations of Christianity.  (Center for the Study of Global Christianity or World Christian Encyclopedia (Barrett, Kurian, Johnson; Oxford Univ Press, 2nd edition, 2001).

Every time some jackass disagrees with a religion, he goes out and starts his own.  That’s how Protestants (i.e. protesting Catholics) came about and Calvinism (John Calvin disagreed with the Protestant church).  Some even write their own Bibles, like Joseph Smith and the Mormons.  The Mormon Bible is common knowledge.  When I was a Bible minor in college, I even owned one. (I also had a Quran and a copy of the Torah just to be fair).

So which one do we choose?  Baptist, Protestant, Catholic, Calvinism, Evangelical, Mormon, Jehova’s Witness, Pentecostals, Orthodox Christian, Charismatics, neo-Charismatics, Anglicans, 7th Day Adventists, Southern Baptist…….just to name a few.

Pick one.

And then we can start on the cults like the Moonies.  Never mind, that list is even longer.

If you read the following carefully, you’ll notice something rather interesting……

Right there, on top, number 1…… FREEDOM OF RELIGION.   Nowhere does it say anyone has the right to force their religion down anyone’s throat.

In other words, your right to worship your way does NOT trump mine to worship my way.

So, just maybe, we should go back to what the Founding Fathers wanted and keep the separation of Church and State intact.

THIS is what the guys who wrote and signed the Constitution had in mind.  NOT the garbage we’re hearing from the left, right and media morons.

Live and let live.  Let people believe in what they choose without forcing others to think the way you do.  THAT attitude is communism.

Tolerance.  Tolerance, acceptance and understanding is the only way we will survive as a country.  Emulate the examples and words of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.  Without them, we are nothing.

I believe that we are here for a reason. We just don't know what it is. I believe there are no borders or color differentiations. We're all the same under the skin and we all want the same basic things. I hate injustice and tend to take a stand against what I feel is unfair and just plain wrong. So, read on and comment if you'd like. Happy New Year!
