Ignorance in the 21st Century……

I’ve been collecting these from Facebook, and a few other places, and it made me realize that I’m not the only one worried about how stupid this country is becoming.

All of these memes are extremely descriptive of what is happening in our country and schools today.

I call it the Dumbing Down of America.

And for good reason.  Our schools are no longer  allowed to teach practical skills.  They no longer teach science.  They no longer teach history.  They don’t teach practical math.  They DO teach to state mandated tests that serve no practical purpose and waste the time and energy of everyone involved.  They do teach abbreviated history, convoluted math and the historic ramblings of Ronald Reagan.  But no civics and a very abbreviated government class.

(As well as plastics, canned food, stoves, freezers, washers, dryers and everything else that science has had a hand in.)

The idea that we no longer need to educate our kids to be creative, functional adults is, to put it mildly, insane.  The idea that we lag behind the rest of the world in skills we used to excel at, and lead the world in, is preposterous.  And, when one man wants to give our kids a free 2 year associates college education, we denigrate him and think he’s nuts and refuse to cooperate.  Other countries offer free 4 year college educations for their kids…but NOT the backwards United States.

As a country, we are regressing to the centuries of the Inquisition where, if you didn’t believe the way you were told to, you were tortured and executed in the name of religion or of the king.  We are regressing to the time of Galileo when he was put in prison for daring to say that the Earth moved around the Sun instead of the opposite.  We are regressing to book burning, bigotry, hatred of those who believe differently, are more intelligent, who are disabled and who don’t follow the crowd.  Sound like a rebirth of Hitler, doesn’t it?

So-called stars are telling kids it’s ok NOT to read or to be well educated or intelligent.

And that, my friends, has to be the stupidest, most moronic, thing I have heard in my entire life.  Instead of DECREASING our knowledge, we should be INCREASING IT as an intelligent species.

For over a century, people came to this country FOR the educational opportunities for their children.  Hungarians, Poles, Germans, Japanese, Chinese…..the list is as long as there are countries on this globe.  All of these people wanting something better for themselves and their children.  They told their kids education is everything.  That, with it, they could be anything they wanted.

And most of them did something with that education.  They became doctors, lawyers, secretaries, nurses, business owners, cops, and  more.  They all had one thing in common……they were well educated in subjects that mattered.  English, math, writing, sciences, history, government/civics.  They were prodded and pushed to be better.  To achieve.  To be more.  There was no “guessing” or “estimating” being taught.  There was no denial of factual history.  There was no printing instead of cursive.  There was no dissention about science.  Lessons were integrated with practical, everyday things to drive the lessons home.  It related to what was happening around them.

And that is no longer happening.  Something has to change….quickly….or this country will become too ignorant to survive in this fast paced, scientific world.  And that will be when we lose everything we’ve fought for.

About avlanchlovngirl

I believe that we are here for a reason. We just don't know what it is. I believe there are no borders or color differentiations. We're all the same under the skin and we all want the same basic things. I hate injustice and tend to take a stand against what I feel is unfair and just plain wrong. So, read on and comment if you'd like. Happy New Year!
