I don’t think another title is necessary. We all know what happens every single day in this country and it’s sickening.
270 mass murders. Count them. Gun murders of innocent children. Gun murders of innocent people. Gun murders of cops. Gun murders of large and small groups of innocent people.
Count the unnecessary dead.
Count the mass shootings in this country since the beginning of this year. This means 14 days out of this year, so far, there hasn’t been a mass shooting.
FOURTEEN. TWO WEEKS. And this is November. I hate to see what the rest of the year will produce. And, as a country, we’ve become so used to it no one even flinches any more.
People say arm the teachers, arm the students, arm everybody. What no one realizes is, all the guns in the world and all the armed citizens in the world couldn’t have prevented any of these mass killings. By the time one untrained person who has never heard a gunshot reacts, 4 people, or more, are dead.
Even people who are trained but have never been in combat will hesitate and, with that hesitation, others are murdered. People who have seen combat even hesitate, wondering if they should really try to take down the shooter in a crowd; wonder if they would be shot if they missed or who they would accidentally kill.
Do I know the solution? No, I don’t. But I do know something has to be done before more of our kids die.
150,000 men, women and mostly children have died from gun violence since 9/11. That is 5 times as many as died on 9/11. And that’s just in a 10 year period. In 2013 there were 30,000 gun deaths, alone. I will hate to see what 2014 and 2015 statistics look like.
Something else to think about……Since 9/11 there have been no real terror attacks by outside forces on American soil. Each attack has been by an AMERICAN, born and raised in this country.
In the last month 6 small children have been shot and killed in Cleveland alone.
Daily news broadcasts tell of people who have been killed by someone wielding a gun of some type.
People shooting themselves in various body parts because they have zero clue as to how to handle a gun safely. Or shooting a family member or neighbor for the same reason. Or a gun “falling” on the floor and killing a child and her mother.
If you haven’t taken a gun safety course, you shouldn’t own a gun. Very simple. Very easy. You take the course, you learn to properly handle, load and unload a gun, go through a background check, and you can own a gun. This should apply to every sales avenue for guns. Every car and every driver has to be trained and licensed, why aren’t guns? They are just as deadly if not more so.
The media took the president’s challenge to heart, to compare gun deaths to terrorist deaths in this country.
Despite what Republicans and others, like the NRA, say, other countries do NOT have this problem. Only the good old U.S. of A.. What are they doing right that we aren’t? What are their laws compared to ours? How have they managed to keep mass shootings and individual shootings to a third, or less, of what this country does? Somehow, other countries have done this while we are failing miserably to save our people.
I still don’t know the answer, but here HAS to be one.
